Particulars:
In the data from 1840-1915 (except for the year 1913) all former Ukrainian gouvernates in the Russian Empire were added together.
The changes in area and population between 1900 and 1950 (e.g. the in- or excluding of the Moldavskaja SSR and / or the Zakarpats'ka oblast') have not been recalculated.
Figures in italic from 1900-1958 are based on "KB"; for 1900-1925 however, they were recalculated by the compiler.
The projected figures beyond the year 2000 were made around 1992 by the UN; at that time the later trend of the deminishing population could not have been taken in account.
